Bangladesh: The Country I Never Planned to Visit

I never planned to visit Bangladesh.
In fact, the first time I heard of the country was over 20 years ago, when someone dismissed it as “not worth knowing.” That single conversation stayed with me for decades.
Fast forward to today, and I found myself wandering through the ancient streets of Old Dhaka, exploring the forgotten capital of Sonargaon, eating one of the best biryanis I’ve ever tasted, and learning about a nation that fought to preserve its language, a struggle that gave the world International Mother Language Day.
Bangladesh surprised me. It challenged some of my expectations, confirmed others, and gave me stories I never expected to tell. Most of all, it reminded me that some of the world’s richest histories are often hidden behind the places we know the least about.
