Hamburgers are arguably one of the most famous sandwiches in the world! I believe the buns matter, there are different approaches to burger buns; some like it very buttery and squishy while others like the bun firm and soft inside. These buns are enriched with milk and vegetable oil, they stay firm and fluffy inside, takes very well to toasting and gives you that extra crispiness when you bite into the sandwich. You know I love making bread so I will have the other buns ready for you soon. Enjoy these buns with our juicy and delicious burgers.

Ingredients

    Sponge
  • 250ml milk
  • 5g instant yeast
  • 8g granulated sugar
  • 10g honey
  • 250g flour
  • Dough
  • 150g flour
  • 7g salt
  • 20ml vegetable oil
  • Sesame seeds (optional, topping)
  • Melted butter or egg wash (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make sponge by combining the ingredients and mixing till smooth. Cover and let stand till more than doubled in volume, will take about an hour.
  2. To make the bread dough, combine the sponge, remaining flour, salt and vegetable oil in a mixer bowl. Mix until smooth and elastic, about 4 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 180˚C
  4. Shape into a ball and set in a bowl covered to rise for about an hour. It should double in size.
  5. Turn dough unto a well-floured surface and divide into four portions, each should weigh about 175g. Shape into tight balls and place in a lined baking tray. Cover and let rest for about 10 minutes, then use either a rolling pin to slightly flatten them or any tool with flat round surface. Cover the buns again for 20 minutes for final proofing.
  6. If you are using egg wash, beat the egg and with a brush, brush into unto the buns gently. This will give a nice golden colour. And the sesame seeds will stick to it, so just sprinkle on the sesame seeds.
  7. If you don’t like the taste of egg wash it okay too, use a brush to brush some water unto the bun and sprinkle on the sesame seeds, you may need to push them on a little with a damp kitchen towel to make sure they are not blown are in the oven. Brush with melted butter immediately they come out of the oven, it gives your buns a shine.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes, till golden brown on top. Set immediately on a cooling rack to release the steam.
  9. Make our delicious and juicy burgers to enjoy your buns.
